Since Thailand lacks laws regarding food waste management, this research aimed to propose legal measures that are applicable to the current situation in Thailand, as well as to improve the food waste management in Thailand to be in accordance with the principles of the United Nations sustainable development goal 12.3. A qualitative research method was used in this research, including document research, field research, and in–depth interviews. The research found that food waste in Thailand is still being managed the same way as other types of waste. Thailand does not have a law specifically for food waste management as there are only laws that are partly applicable. Moreover, the research showed that there are no legal measures specifically for food waste management. The laws that are being enforced applicable to food waste management do not cover the whole system of food waste management and lack legal measures preventing food waste production. Furthermore, there are no specifications in waste sorting management for different types of waste, resulting in all types of waste being treated the same way without sorting. Hence, this research proposes legal measures by drafting an act specifically for food waste through the implementation of applicable laws from the People's Republic of China, the French Republic, and the United States of America as its basis.
