Abstract This article investigated the way of behaving connected with law as exhibited in local literary works of southern Thailand. The study revealed that local literary works of southern Thailand composed reflected kings, aristocrats, women and people’s principles of conduct that were relevant to lawsclearly.The local literary works of southern Thailand composed after B.E. 2475exhibited people’s principles of conduct that were relevant to constitutional lawsimportantly such as respect to law, non-avoidance of taxes, protection of nation, religion and monarchy. The authors employed five different strategies to persuade the people to follow the laws which included telling the results of unlawful practice, comparing results of lawful and unlawful practices, using Buddhist beliefs to reaffirm wrong doing of the people who did not follow the law, making readers realizing about law power that inescapably affected our love ones, and convincing readers to see development of the nation due to lawful practice. The presentation of information related to laws in literary works reflected not only the role of local literary works of southern Thailand in giving pleasure, but also that in controlling people’s behavior in the society leading to a more peaceful society.
