will be concluded within the indicated period of the charter, as seen in the recent case in The Wehr Trave. 19 In period charter type, it is automatically implemented , as stated in Clause 52 of the four default clauses of the period charter given below. However, BIMCO states that the charterer and the shipowner should be guided to check cautiously as to whether the additional clauses according to Clause 52 should or should not apply to the contract. 20 Firstly, the last voyage clause, allowing the charterer to maintain the terms of the charterparty “at the same rate or the prevailing market rates, whichever is the higher” 21 , for the last voyage beyond the indicated period of the charter. The last voyage must either be “a ballast voyage to the place of redelivery, or a laden voyage” 22 which was “reasonably expected to be completed within the employment period when commenced”. 23 In view of the charterer, this provision is limited compared to The World Renown 24 case.
