Secondly, the time can be added by the charterer when the vessel is deemed off-hire to the period charters. Thirdly, the vessel may be voyaged with the charterer’s flag and painted with the charterer’s mark. Finally, the shipowner will have the choice of dry docking the vessel during the charter period. 26 Moreover, Clause 1 also comprises the optional NAABSA term (Not Always Afloat But Safely Aground). NAABSA is one of the provisions which response to changing trade practices. NAABSA does not present in NYPE 1993, but appears in the 1946 version. Nevertheless, it has been brought back in NYPE 2015. The NAABSA term allows the charterer to instruct the vessel lying aground for the duration of loading and discharging, which is completed safely and in conform to the class requirements.
