Abstract
An analysis of course cost and frequency of scientific equipment use in nine chemistry
laboratory courses of Bachelor of Education Program (Science – Chemistry) in order to calculate the
total, fixed and variable costs of each course, five factors must be considered: total number of courses,
and laboratories that use the equipment, useful life and sets of equipment/glassware and
equipment/glassware/chemical’s cost. The result found that the total cost per year is 644,157.90 baht.
The biggest contribution to the course cost per year is given by equipment costs (434,496.63 baht)
followed by the chemical and materials (129,121.33 baht) and glassware (80,539.94 baht) respectively.
A table shows the cost per student. The percentage of frequency of equipment use is as follows: 93.52
– 42.59ǰ% is equipment that used in all courses, 31.48 – 10.19 % is equipment that used in some basic
courses and specialized course and less than 10 % is equipment that used in some basic courses, but
operating at low frequency and only specialized course.
The practical suggestion is the Bachelor of Education Program (Science – Chemistry) has to be
allocated on a reasonable budget to engagement for higher education quality assurance.
