Abstract
Gross alpha and beta radioactivity of 25 tap water samples collected from 5 stations in Hat Yai and
Muang Songkhla district of Songkhla province, have been measured and evaluated. Experimental results were
obtained by using a proportional gas flow detector and its analysis system at Office of Atoms for Peace laboratory.
Am-243 and KCl radioactive standard sources were used to analyze and compute all of gross alpha and Beta
radioactivities, respectively. The measuring time of all tap water samples is 100 minutes. It was found that, the
average values of gross alpha and beta radioactivities in all tap water samples are 0.009 ± 0.003 Bq/l and 0.508 ±
0.020 Bq/l, respectively. Moreover, all of these average values were also compared to the limits proposed by Thai
Industrial Standard Institute (TISI) and World Health Organization (WHO).
