Abstract
The objective of this research to study the effects of rice cultivars and plant spacings for increasing rice
yield with the system of rice intensification (SRI). The experiment used 5x3 factorial in randomized complete
blocks design with 4 replications having four rice cultivars (Suphan Buri 1, Chainat 1, Pathum Thani 1, RD 29 and
RD 33) and three plant spacings (25x25 cm, 30x30 cm and 40x40 cm). Field experiment was conducted during
dry season at Phatthalung Rice Research center. The results revealed that rice cultivars and plant spacings affect
on yield components; Pathum Thani 1 had the highest plant number per hill and panicle number per hill (16.88
plants and 16.94 panicle, respectively). RD 29 had the lowest spikelet number per panicle and grain yield (1,116.9
seeds and 475.93 kg.rai
-1
, respectively). The highest number per hill, panicle number per hill, spikelet number per
panicle and grain yield were obtained in rice cultivated at 40x40 cm (17.46 plant, 17.01 panicle, 1,947.7 spikelet
and 811.79 kg.rai
-1
, respectively). Interaction between rice cultivars and plant spacings had no significant effect on
grain yield.
