Abstract
This study was assessed mortar containing barite tailing aggregate (BTA) and oil palm fiber ash (OPFA)
as mineral admixture. The effect of different proportions of OPFA (10, 20 and 30 vol.%) and water-cured at 1, 7,
and 28 days on the physical, mechanical, gamma radiation properties and microstructure by X-ray diffraction
(XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) of heavy mortar was determined. Experimental results showed
that BTA mortar had the bulk density in range of 2,248-3,514 kg/m
3
, low water absorption percent, and it had also
high values of compressive and bonding strengths. BTA mortar revealed the high attenuation of transmitted
gamma rays.
