Abstract
The study is aimed to describe theǰprevalence and factors associated with sharps injuries (Sis)
among health care workers(HCWs). A total of 332 HCWsǰwas interviewed using self-administered
questionnaires. The data were explored for associated risks using negative binomial regression due to
over-dispersion of zero value.
Theǰresult showedǰthat among 40 persons who reported SIs, 71 episodes or the prevalence of
0.21per person per month of both contaminated and uncontaminated with body fluids Sisǰoccurred,
while there was 29ǰepisodes or the prevalence of 08per person per month, considering
contaminated SIs. The variablesǰexplored under study included age, marital status, work position, work
experience, risky job, dangerous patient, job stress, unsafe work, safety behavior at work, usage of
sharp containers, safety management, and attitudeǰtoward safety. However, there was no statistically
significant risk factor found.
