Abstract
The purposes of this research were: 1) to compare English learning achievement between the pretest and
the posttest scores and their attitude toward English learning of Prathomsuksa 1 students taught by the 4 MAT
learning circle instruction method; 2) to compare the learning achievement between the pretest and the posttest
scores and their attitude toward English learning of Prathomsuksa 1 students taught by conventional approach ;
and 3) to compare the learning achievement posttest score in English language and attitude toward English
learning of Prathomsuksa 1 students between the 4MAT learning circle instructional method and the
conventional approach.
The sample consisted of 76 Prathomsuksa 1 students of Anubanpathiu School (Bangsonphiphitharatbumrung),
Amphoe Pathiu, Chumphon Province, in the second semester of 2008. Through the sample random sampling technique,
the sample was experimental the control group. The instruments used were: 1) the 12 lesson plans of the
4MAT learning circle instruction method and the 12 lesson plans of the conventional approach; 2) the English
achievement test and 3) the attitude toward English learning test. The one – group pretest – posttest experimental
research design was employed in this study. The collected data were analyzed in a descriptive statistics and
content analysis.
The results were:
1. The posttest score of English achievement and the attitude toward English learning of Prathomsuksa 1
students in the 4MAT learning circle instruction method was higher than the pretest.
2. The posttest score of English achievement and attitude toward English learning of Prathomsuksa 1
students taught by the conventional approach was higher than the pretest.
3. The posttest score of English achievement and attitude toward English learning of Prathomsuksa 1
students

than
that of the conventional approach groups.
