Abstract
The aim of this study was to study the urbanization and the urban environmental problems caused by the
urban changes in Thungsong City. The qualitative research method was employed through the semi – structured
interviews with 29 key-informants including the elected local officials and municipal staff and the representative
of community committee. It was found that the human settlement of this city was as a result of the geographical
conditions comprising with 4 canals. These transportation and commercial factors lead to the growth of the city
later on. Since Thungsong Junction was built, the surrounding areas has been developed and turned to be the city
center. In 1981, the new highway No. 41 was operated and the residential area has been expanded through this
