Abstract
Microwave synthesis is eco-friendly synthetic procedure.
In this report, microwave
synthesis of three
thiocarbamates has been investigated by a reaction of benzoyl chloride,
ammonium thiocyanate and alcohols on
the surface of alumina under microwave irradiation using domestic microwave (800 Watts).
Methyl
N
-
benzoylthiocarbamate was obtained in good yield with 10 % power (80 Watts), ten plus five minutes irradiation
and with the mole ratio of starting (benzoyl chloride : ammonium thiocyanate : alcohol) = 1:1:30. Under the same
conditions, ethyl
N
-benzoylthiocarbamate and isopropyl
N
-benzoylthiocarbamate were obtained in moderate
yields (52.92 and 55.22%, respectively). The compounds were characterized by NMR (
1
H and
13
C) and FT-IR
spectroscopy techniques. This development of microwave synthesis is a simple procedure for synthesis of
thiocarbamates and a green reaction consuming less organic solvent, time and energy.
