Abstract
2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) is intermediate in the manufacture of pesticide and pharmaceutical
products that spread in downgradient and groundwater. In this study, the nano zero-valent iron (NZVI) was
synthesized by using the reduction reaction of FeCl
3
and NaBH
4
which precursor. The NZVI used as a catalyst for
degradation of 2,4-DCP (100 mg/l) aqueous solution. The Minitab program was used to design the experiment by
using two-level full factorial model (2
k
full factorial). There were three studied factors that were catalyst type
(Commercial-NZVI and Synthesis-NZVI), initial pH and catalyst dosage. The data from 2
k
factorial models were
optimized by Minitab program. The optimum condition for degradation was pH 7 and Synthesis-NZVI was 6 g/l.
The percent removal of 2,4-DCP was 26.77% at 3 h.
