Abstract
This experiment aimed to study density of mayflies and to determine the relationship between physical
and chemical factors affecting on diversity of mayflies. The study also aimed to clarify an effect of agricultural
activities on mayflies diversity. Up, mid and down streams of the Ton Nga Chang Waterfall, Songkhla Province,
were divided for a sample comparison. The study was undertaken between July 2008 and May 2009 by using a
surber sampler, left for 30 minutes nine samples in each divided areas were also collected at every consecutive
2 months. The result found 15 species of 14 genera, covering 6 families of mayflies. Up stream subarea showed
higher species than those of mid and down stream subareas. The relationship between mayflies diversity and
physical and chemical factors i.e. water temperature, air temperature, depth of stream, width of stream, water
velocity, pH of water, dissolved oxygen, transparency of water and an amount of average rainfall was investigated.
It was found that up and mid streams having a negative relationship with physical and chemical factors. Down
stream subarea was found positive relationship only with water temperature (p<0.05), air temperature (p<0.01),
width of stream (p<0.05) and dissolved oxygen (p<0.05).
