Abstract
The objectives of this research aimed to study quality of Fan Palm Leaves to be data for product design
together with villagers and made the prototype of Fan Palm Leaves. The methodology was participatory action
research according to these process ; 1) Pre-Research Phase 2) Research Phase 3) Planning Phase
4) Implementation Phase 5) Monitoring and Evaluation Phase. The summarization was Fan Palm Leaves was
Palm specy. Its leaf was like the fan, oily and sticky. It was acquired generally at the border of the river. With its
quality, Fan Palm Leaves was adequate sticky, dyably, crisply, easy to be torn, and difficult to be shaped. The
most of villagers brought Fan Palm Leaves to plant at parawood garden. According to the results, villager had
readiness to mutual design and develop very well. For material, it was found that there was too much material to
support in the future. For producer, they had a need to develop their products. Moreover, there was a need to
enhance local wisdom, promote young people to spend time usefully. For the workshop with the local community,
villagers were taught by specialists. Training was held twice a month. The results revealed that Fan Palm Leaves
was able to be designed with varieties patterns and styles. There would be re-design together with the other
material. For product design, the trainees revealed that they would like to design Fan Palm Leaves as persons who
developed products, and 30 persons of targeted group, the level of abilities for Fan Palm Leaves product
development was high (X= 4.19).
