Abstract
Skim Natural Rubber latex (SNRL) produced as a by-product from centrifugation process of concentrated
natural rubber latex. SNRL contains 3-10wt% of residual rubber and composed of mainly small and impurities
particle. Typically, concentrated sulfuric acid has been used to coagulate the skim rubber. Disadvantages of
application of the concentrated sulfuric acid are low quality skim rubber products and disposal of high acidic waste
water. Therefore, ammonium polyacrylate solution at a concentration of 0.2 wt% was added into the skim latex and
incubated for 3 h. This caused increasing capability to coagulate the skim latex by adding 10% sulfuric acid.
Furthermore, the skim rubber with lower Mooney viscosity, initial plasticity (P

), dirt content, and nitrogen content
was obtained. The waste water with lower BOD was also observed compared with the system using solely sulfuric
acid.
