Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate the optimum density for cultivation of hybrid
catfish(Clarias macrocephalus × C. gariepinus) in recirculating concrete ponds with lettuce (Lactuca
sativa) hydroponics system which consisted of water from the rearing ponds being recirculated
through sedimentary control system and biofilter for 68 days of the cultivation period. This
experiment consisted of 4 treatments with 3 replications. The catfish growth performances and
water quality were determined every 2 weeks. Results showed that there were not significant
differences in growth performances (average weights of catfish , mean lengths ,average weight gains
, daily increased lengths , specific growth rates, FCR and survival rates. Productivity of vegetable in
the 2, 3 and 4 treatments as 32 132 1 3 13 1and 1 3 13 2 grams. Respectively.
The water parameters were not significant differences (P > 0.05). In summary, the hydroponic of
lettuce (Lactuca sativa) with hybrid catfish in a closed system could be developed for a source of
an additional income and promoted to be a food safety production for a local consumption.
