Abstract
The preliminary investigation on mating patterns of five gravid females of wild swimming crabs,
1 ǰ
QFMBHJDVT
collected from Takuathung District, Phangnga Province was carried out using three microsatellite
markers, namely DOFBSC25 DOFBSC26 and DOFBSC29. The results showed that these markers were
suitable for using in the study. The mating patterns of the species are likely to be a single fertilization.
This might be the result of mating behavior of crabs that the male will mate with the molting female and
attach to the female until the molting is completed. Furthermore, to confirm the occurrence of multiple
fertilizations in the species, there have to be at least three alleles different between fertilized eggs and
their mothers. In this study, the maximum numbers of different alleles between the fertilized eggs and
their mothers are 2 alleles. However, to get a clear picture on mating patterns of the species, further
investigation on the numbers and sizes of alleles in an individual fertilized egg compared with the
mothers must be carried out.
