Abstract
This study aims to look into comparisons of costs and incomes on the socio-economic characteristics and
production systems of rubber farming and oil palm farming in the low land areas. The results of this study
indicated that production systems could be classified into 5 systems that were (1) oil palm and rice farming system
(R1), (2) rubber and rice farming system (R2), (3) rubber with oil palm farming system (R1), (4) oil palm farming
system (R4), and (5) rubber farming system (R5). Furthermore, the study found that rubber with oil palm system
gave the maximum incomes at 19,300.27 baht/rai/year with the maximum net incomes at 6,114.16 baht/rai/year.
However, rubber farming system gave the minimum net incomes at 1,549.26 baht/rai/year. Almost production
costs of all systems were variable costs. The important problems of rubber and oil palm farming were flooding
during the raining season, lacking of labors, and selling products at low price. Then farmers need to raise the
planting plots before growing rubber and oil palms trees. The study also suggested that farmers should select strain
that could stand for flooding situation and would grow well in the areas with the high level of underground water
and should use the organic fertilizer along with chemical fertilizer to reduce the production costs.
