Abstract
Due to the global economic recession, farmers have to make decision to choose the most appropriate
production to match the around various environments. Currently, farmers have attempted to change the pattern of
farming systems to increase products and incomes of their households. Farm households in Amphoe Khlongthom
at Changwat Krabi change rubber farming systems of the past years to be more oil palm farming systems at
present. However, there are still a lot of farmers who are encountering to the problems of production quantity and
farm management that affect the economic status of farm households. The results of this study indicated that farm
households received all income from rubber farming system and oil palm farming system at 20,322.48
baht/rai/year and 11,150.52 baht/rai/year, respectively. The total costs of rubber farming system and oil palm
farming system were 11,003.32 baht/rai/year and 9,176.26 baht/rai/year, respectively. This showed that farm
households had received net profit/rai/year from oil palm farming lower than rubber farming. The significant
conditions for the adaptation were capital, product price, growing area expansion policies, Krabi’s strategic plans,
physical and biological conditions and labors. Therefore, more details of information, increasing biological
varieties of farm, participation of farmers and using appropriate factors of production will be guidelines to support
farm households to the changing situation.
