Abstract
The purpose of this research was to explore the information access and utilization for self-development of
Pa Payorm Community. Research target population was the local of Koh Tao sub-district, Pa Payorm district,
Pattalung province. Research sample comprised 15 community leaders willingly to cooperate as key informants.
Research instrument was an interview schedule with inquiry issues identified in accordance with research
framework. The researchers conducted the interviews directly with research informants at their base and recorded
interviewing information by themselves. Research findings were as follows.
1. Information access for self-development
1.1 Types of information sources having been accessed included television and local meeting areas
such as stores, official places, folk groups or clubs.
1.2 Means of information access were both direct and indirect.
1.3 Types of information having been accessed included currents affairs news, agricultural news,
political news, career-related knowledge, government information, food and health television programs.
1.4 Factors affecting information access included time and work load, convenience of access, types
of information sources, and needs to access.
2. Information utilization for self-development
2.1 Purposes of information utilization included self and community development, career-related
problem solving, career development for greater quality of production in response to market demands.
2.2 Means of information utilization included using by ways of responding to the emergence of
problems or needs, and by ways of providing recommendations to others.
2.3 Results of information utilization included success in problem solving, career development,
product growth, and product development in response to clients’ needs.
2.4 Factors affecting information utilization included factors relevant to themselves and others, and
contextual factors.
