Abtract
This is a research on ethic appearing in folk comedy literature of southern Thailand.Data for the research were
taken from literary works written by southern authers during the early Rattanakosin Era, befor the period of the reing of
the king Rama v.The five works are Pra Rot Mayree or Nang Sipsong,Manohra Nibat, Chalawan or Kraithong
Khamkarp, Suwannahong and Pla Boo Thong.The original copies of this works were recorded in the “Boot” or “Samoot
Koy” (The paper make from koy’s tree) from and ultilized the ancient Thai alphabets(use in the the early Rattanakosin
Era).The total in criptions consonants, vowels and tonal symbols are quite distint from the present writing system. This is
due to the fact that these literary works had been written befor the establishment of dictionary for reference. Later copies
have been rewritten to conform with the present system and later published. However major written style have been
maintained, which can be seen in Prarot Mayree or Nang Sipsong and Manohra Nibat etc.
Analysis for theme, plot,event and dialogue reveals different aspects of ethics in grianed these structures: kindness,
generosity, grateful, honesty, responsibility, discipline, sacrifice, solidarity, struggle, tolerance, justice, diligent, and
economy. This aspects of ethics can be found in high frequency in certain works,whereas in some, only a few espects are
mentioned, while others do not at all,depending on the focus on certain mention ethics as expressed by individual authers.
Gratfull, kindness, generosity, and discipline have been emphasized in Prarot Mayree or Nang Sip Song, while struggle,
tolerance and responsibility are stressed in Manohra Nibat, Similarly, responsibility, honesty, and justice are stressed in
Chalawan or Krai Tong Kamkarp, whereas kindness, generosity, honesty, and justice are focused in Suwanahong, while
gratefull, kindness, and generosity, are emphasized in Pla Boo Thong.
Aspects of ethics as appearing in the southern Thailand’s folk literature have been used in social development of
different perspectives such as politics, finding sponse, marriage, friendship, coexistence, and occupation.
