Abstract
The development of catalysts for rigid polyurethane foam is the main objective of this research. The
catalysts employed were complexes of the mixed metal and amine, where the mixed metal complex were copper-
zinc, copper-cobalt and copper-nickel. The mixed metal:amines mole ratio were varied of 1:1 and 1:2 by mole.
The polymerization times investigated in the synthesis of rigid polyurethane foam were cream time, gel time, rise
time and tack free time. The reaction times of the prepared foams were investigated and compared to N,N-
dimethylcyclohexylamine (DMCHA), which is used commercially. The results obtained showed that the density of
prepared foams was in the range 38.0-46.0 kg/m
3
. The catalytic activity of the mixed metal at the ratio of 1:1
showed better than that 1:2 by mole. Cu:Zn(pentaen) and showed better catalytic activity than Cu:Co(pentaen),
Cu:Ni(pentaen) and DMCHA.
