Abstract
The research focus on preparation of semi-interpenetrating polymer network (semi-IPN) composed of
carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and fibroin from Thai silk (SF). The semi-IPN was prepared by using
methylenebisacrylamide (MBA) as a crosslinking agent. Ammonium persulfate (APS) was used as an initiator.
Investigation and comparison of various CMC/SF ratio on properties of sheet such as physical properties, water
content (WC) of sheet in distill water, the equilibrium water content (EWC) of sheet in difference pH buffer
solution was study. In addition, the equilibrium water content (EWC) of sheet in salt solutions was investigated
under 2 cases, multivalent cationic charge and monovalent cationic charge. The results showed that CMC/SF sheet
at the ratio of 20:10 (v/v) provided good uniformity sheet. The water content under distilled water increased with
increasing the carboxymethylcellulose and the sheet exhibited a reasonable sensitivity to the differences pH buffer
solution. The tendency of the equilibrium water content in multivalent cations salt solutions is in order Na+ > Ca 2+
> Fe3+ and the equilibrium water content in monovalent cations salt solutions is in order LiCl > NaCl > KCl,
respectively.
