III. Economic assessment of the possible BtL
production chain
In economic analysis for investment in slurry
production with capacity of 121,133.52 tons per year or
617,107.97 MWh/a (five fast pyrolysis plants) which is
using palm oil shell from the case study: a palm oil mills
in Sounthern Thailand based on the results of original
laboratory syntheses. It is assumed that, the twenty years
of project life, working time at 7000 hours per year,
personnel cost per year is 21.21 million THB, the interest
rate of 5.875%, electricity cost of 2.4649 THB/kWh or
37.196 million THB/year, the biomass cost including
transportation cost is 1,300 THB/ton or 227.5 million
THB/year, and maintenance cost per year is 4.23% of the
machines’ prices. The first investment is
189.69 million
THB including the recycle plant and machines. Humidity
containing is 15% wet of biomass and HHV biomass
input 103.59 MWh/h. Sale price of slurry is 21 THB/liter.
Amount of Electricity used for fast pyrolysis is 15,090.09
kWh/a/year and water consumption is 60,454.55 m
3
/year.
The approximated first investment and operating cost
of fast pyrolysis plant are shown in Table V and VI.

A result from the analysis show that, payback period
of the production is approximately 2 years. The
composition of BtL production costs of fast pyrolysis is
shown in Fig. 1.
