actions of an individuals in order to take care for themselves. Self-care helps to maintain human
regulatory function, to maintain conditions that support life processes, to prevent and control health
deviation, to treat or relieve symptoms from diseases, to prevent a disease and disability, and promote
good health and well-being. [17]
4. Conclusion and Recommendations
At baseline, all characteristics of the experimental and control groups were similar. At the
end of the study, self-care ability score in the experimental group was significantly higher than in
control group. Although, there was a statistically significant difference of lower PASI score within the
experimental group, there was no statistically significant differences of the scores between the
experimental and control groups was demonstrated. At the end of the study, the effectiveness of self-
help group on self-care ability after was increased by 3.85% and the effectiveness on PASI score
showed the reduction of 18.39%.
Recommendations:
Self-help group should be considered as an adjuvant to standard
treatment to improve patient self-care. This could be combined on excellent nursing care model for
psoriasis patients. Training on this might be considered to be included in the guidance for nursing care
and for the personnel and for curriculum design in nursing education.
The administration might create a policy that supports the establishment of self-help group
to promote patient self-care.
