Abstract
Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been extensively used because of the claim of a broad
antibacterial activity of AgNPs. Therefore, the aim of this research was to study the size, water loss and
swelling ratio of the calcium alginate beads containing AgNPs, when compared with the blank beads
(with no AgNPs). The size of the blank beads and the calcium alginate beads containing AgNPs was
1335.8±176.2 μm and 1272±135.5 μm, respectively, after measured by an optical microscope. Both
beads showed the water loss at >97%, and the maximum swelling ratio of the blank beads and the
beads containing AgNPs was found after 240 and 180 min, respectively.
