Abstract
An upflow bio-filter circuit (UBFC) was a kind of microbial fuel cell converting chemical energy
into electrical energy by whole cell bacterias. In this research, the UBFC was developed for small scale
of rubber wastewater treatment plant (wastewater 10 m

/d). The anode materials composing by A: an
iron net fixed with natural fiber and B: an iron net without natural fiber was conducted in 3 designs.
The first design used 4A, the second design used 2A and 2B and the third design used 4B. The system
was run continuously by real wastewater from the 2
nd
aerobic pond. The initial COD and sulfide
concentration were 641.69-847.99 mg/L and 0.2 mg/L respectively. The result revealed that the second
design provided the maximum efficiency of COD removal 0.32 mg/L-d and sulfide removal 98% at
organic loading rate of 3.23-5.32 kgCOD/L-d. The maximal power was found negligibly 0.42 mW/m

at
