Abstract
The purpose of this study was to present the investigation of local wisdom transmission process. It was
qualitative research using in-depth interviews, and participatory observation from 7 local artisans. The data was
analyzed by analytic-induction method. The study found that Chiang Mai artisans had been familiarized with the
Lanna environment, and this motivated them to become absorbed and interested in paper carving and this led to
transmission. Related factors which could cause more effective transmission are the readiness of the practitioners
and the learners, the materials, contents, artisans’ beliefs and spiritual beliefs. The transmission process led to new
professionals and the ability to transmit knowledge and moral values to later generations with The interaction
between person and learning environment. Moreover, local artisans were proud of their work as well as their
learners.
