Abstract
The objectives of this research were (1) to compare the students’ learning achievement before and after
learning by the problem-solving process through mixed instructional activities, (2) to compare the students’
analytical thinking ability before and after learning by the problem-solving process through mixed instructional
activities, and (3) to study the students’ satisfaction after the conduct of learning by the problem-solving process
through mixed instructional activities.
The sample, by means of cluster random sampling, consisted of 33 students at the level of first-year
Vocational Certificate from Business Administration Wittaya Songkhla School in the second term of the 2008
academic year. The research instruments were (1) plans of learning activities by the problem-solving process
through mixed instructional activities, (2) a learning -achievement test, (3) a test to measure analytical thinking
ability, (4) a form for assessment of satisfaction with the conduct of learning. The data analysis made use of
mean, standard deviation, and t-test dependent.
The research findings were as follows. (1) The students learning by the problem -solving process
through mixed instructional activities had higher learning-achievement scores after the learning than before it at
the .01 level of statistical significance. (2) The students learning by the process as mentioned had higher
analytical thinking with respect to analysis of importance, analysis of relations, and analysis of principles, after
the learning than before it at the .01 level of statistical significance. (3) The students learning by the process
referred to had a high level of satisfaction with the conduct of learning, with a mean of 4.39 and a standard
deviation of 0.64.
