Abstract
The objectives of this research were to study the level of aflatoxin contamination in feedstuffs and
complete feed. A total of 251 samples consisting of 98 feedstuff samples, 22 swine feed and 131 dairy feed were
collected from farms and feedmills in Patthalung province. The aflatoxin contamination in the samples was
analyzed according to the Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) method using the DOA-Aflatoxin
ELISA Test Kit. It was found that 71.43% of feedstuffs samples which consisted of corn, broken rice, rice bran,
cassava leave, ground cassava, cassava chip, cassava waste, palm kernel meal, soybean meal, full fat soybean and
fish meal presented the contamination of aflatoxin. 100% of corn samples showed positive on aflatoxin analysis.
Whereas the other feedstuffs sample was found contaminated with aflatoxin in the range of 50-76 % of total
sample of each feedstuffs. The average of aflatoxin contaminated in the feedstuffs are as follows; corn (29.74 ppb)
> ground cassava (27.40 ppb) > palm kernel meal (26.85 ppb) > full fat soybean (24.46 ppb) > cotton meal (24.14
ppb) > broken rice (23.39 ppb) > cassava chip (23.37 ppb) > rice bran (23.02 ppb) > fish meal (22.42 ppb) >
soybean meal (22.02 ppb) > cassava leave (18.54 ppb) > cassava waste (7.75 ppb). The highest contamination
level found in this study was in corn (48.13 ppb). Every complete feed sample presented the contamination of
aflatoxin. The contamination of aflatoxin was 22.90 ppb and 18.69 ppb in swine feed and dairy feed, respectively.
However, the level of aflatoxin contamination found in this study was not exceed the maximum level established
in Animal Feed Quality Control Regulation.
