study also aimed to publicize the developed model in the area of 3 Tambons of Palian, Liphang and
Tha Phaya. The sample for the study were drawn from senior citizens whose memory was good and
who were capable of providing historical information of the community, community leaders,
villagers, officials from the government sector and private citizens who promoted or were involved
with tourism, students, tourists, travelers, altogether 72 subjects. The instrument used in the study
was a semi-structured interview schedule, workshops, tourism trials and a questionnaire asking
about satisfaction with the tourism in the area. The qualitative data were analyzed with the content
analysis technique, whereas the quantitative data were analyzed by such statistics as percentage,
arithmetic means and standard deviations.
The findings of the research reveal that 1) there are 6 natural locations with ecological
tourism potentials, 7 locations with historical potentials and 6 traditional and cultural potentials.
The limitations for tourism in this area are that the roads leading to these locations are narrow and
some are covered with laterite deserted mines. Infrastructures such as rest areas, toilets, restaurants
are inadequate. Certain traditional and cultural heritages are deteriorating. Historical places are
hindered by negative local beliefs and difficulty in access. 2) The suitable model for tourism in
Palian District, Trang Province should be a combination between natural sites, cultural and
historical places. Upon trials on tourism activities along touristic routes in Palain District, it is
found that the majority of participants in the trials show a high level of satisfaction with the model
which combines natural, cultural and historical tourism. 3) In publicizing of tourism, it is suggested
that tourism manual, CD and brochures be produced and distribute to the general public. In
addition, training programs should be organized to young tourist guides in 6 schools along the
ecological, historical and cultural touristic routes in the area of Palian District, Trang Province.
