The exploration and collection of Indigenous vegetables at Amphoe Kong Ra, Phatthalung Province
began to study since June 2552 to May 2553. To survey by the plants used as vegetables, local consumption.
Collecting data from documents, ask a local language, to appear in Kong Ra. Recording and sampling and
monitoring the correct scientific name and preparation of samples to herbarium plant. This research, performed in
conjunction with Participatory Action Research (PAR), during a 12 months study, found that there are 66 families,
143 genera and 206 species of local edible plants. Which in 206 species can not be classified in the genus. The
most of them are family Moraceae, found that14 species, followed are family Zingiberaceae found 13 species,
family Araceae found 12 species, were found 10 species in family Euphorbiaceae and family Leguminosae -
Papilionioideae were found 9 species. Both family Gramineae and family Cucurbitaceae were found 8 species.
Family Leguminosae - Mimosoideae and family Guttiferae were found 7 species and more than 40 family are
found that only one species. Furthermore, there were 14 plant species rare in the area such as
Helicia robusta
(Roxb.) R.Br. ex Wall.,
Begonia
sp.
, Garcinia prainiana
King and
Garcinia dulcis
(Roxb.) Kurz, etc. The
ecosystem of this species were natural forest. 4 species which in rare species were not appear in this area such as
Cissus
sp
., Sonneratia alba
Smith,
Streblus taxiodes
(Heynes) Kurz and
Limnocharis flava
Buch. Moreover,
Monochoria vaginalis
(Burm.f.) C.Presl ex Kunth was concerned to endanger species in Amphoe Kong Ra,
Because the limited factor of this species were changed from rice paddy to para rubber plantation. In addition, this
work revealed several factors that have affected local interest in indigenous vegetables such as changes in
cultivation behavior of the farmer, changes in consumption behavior and ignorance from the new generation was
the most important factor affecting indigenous vegetables.
