Abstract
Gelatin is an attractive biopolymer for preparation of biodegradable film because of abundant
and low-cost raw materials and ease in film forming. However, the hydrophilicity, water solubility and
poor mechanical properties of gelatin are the major limitation of the packaging applications. To
overcome this problem, the chemical crosslink between gelatin molecules is required. The aim of this
work was to study the effect of glutaraldehyde (GA) as crosslinking agent on the solubility and
mechanical properties of gelatin film extracted from scale of seabass
ǰ

). The result
showed that the addition of GA into gelatin solution provided a reduction in the solubility of gelatin
film. In addition, the crosslink between gelatin molecules significantly increased in tensile strength.
These results showed that the chemical crosslink by GA could improve the properties of gelatin film
useful in packaging application
