(phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, Hsal
= Salicylate)
was synthesized and characterized by various techniques
.
Single crystal X-ray diffraction
revealed that, Each copper(II) ion has square planar geometry and it is chelated by Hsal and phen
ligands. The Fourier Transfrom infrared spectroscopy confirmed the functional group of the ligands
phen and Hsal. The ultraviolet visible spectra indicated

transition of phen , Hsal and d-d
transition of copper(II) ion at 268, 294 and 644 nm respectively. The thermogravimetry analysis (TGA)
results showed the decomposition of the compound in four steps. The photoluminescent property
showed a broad emission band at a wavelength of 410 nm, which attributed to the metal to ligand
charge transfer (MLCT) from d-transition of metal to

located in the ligands.
