Abstract
This research was to synthesize the compound [Cu(Ben)
2
(Sam)]
2
. The substrate is copper (II)
acetate dehydrate, benzoic acid (Ben) and benzoic acid derivative which is salicylamide (Sam) in the
ratio of 2: 1: 1 at room temperature. Then, this compound has been characterized by using single
crystals X-ray diffraction, the results confirmed that compound is in a triclinic unit cell. The structure is
a dinuclear copper (II) compound which coordinated with the Ben and Sam ligands, creating the
pseudo octahedral geometry around copper. The Fourier Trans form infrared spectroscopy confirmed
the functional group of the ligand Ben and Sam. The thermogravimetry analysis (TGA) indicated the
lost of ligands Ben about 28.39% and ligand Sam is about 16.28% at 220 C° 270 C°ǰandǰ320 C° ǰ470 C°
respectively. The magnetic property has been studied by electron spin resonance (ESR) at room
temperature, the results showed the signal at the position 4200 4875 G and 5850 G, which is the triplet
state (S = 1).
