Abstract
Critical Thinking Abilities(CTA), an outcome criterion of the every educational level, are an abstract
skill difficult to measure. The purpose of this research was to synthesize research methodologies in measurement
design from 91 theses/ dissertation and independent studies that published during 1988-2008 on ThaiLIS databases
that related keyword “critical thinking”. Focusing on the qualities of CTA assessment tools. The data were
collected through the recording and quality research evaluation forms and were analyzed by content analysis, basic
statistics methods such as frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and reliability generalization(RG) was
an examination of the potential impact of variables on the score reliability of data. The results of this research
showed that the most of employing research characteristics were: published in 2007 (22.50%), copyrighted by
Khon Kaen University (25.60%), were theses in teaching and curriculum major (21.10%), were thesis articles on
master degree level (86.80%), studies with secondary student level (50.50%). There were only 59 articles that
CTA were dependent variable and reported the instruments development. In the related articles the most
employing research characteristics were: reported score reliability (68
.
00%), had high score reliability (.60>
D
<
.79) about 69.00% (varied from .30 to .98), the samples size that used to try out instruments and the number of
items were drawn from 7 to 860 samples and 5 to 80 item respectively and were multiple choice scale (61.00%)
besides that the most researchers used Robert H. Ennis CTA conceptual to developed instruments (25 articles),
and all of 25 articles were joined in to reliability generalization analysis because researchers assumed that they are
measured the same construct. In addition the research finding indicated that the sample size was the factors which
had more positively influence in CTA than other variables.
