The effect of 6-week SPI supplementation on glycemic control (expressed by HbA1c levels) and lipid
profiles are reported in Table 2. HbA1c of the SPI group was significantly decreased from baseline (

=0.003). SPI
supplement resulted in reduction in serum TC, LDL-C, TG, but the results did not significantly differ from the
baseline. However, TC was significantly decreased from baseline in the subjects of the SPI group with baseline
TC higher than 5.18 mmol/l (200 mg/dl) (

=0.04) (Table 3).The hs-CRP concentrations of the subjects in SPI
group were nearly significantly decreased from baseline (Table 2). At baseline, hs-CRP concentrations were
significantly positively correlated with HbA1c (
