Abstract
The purpose of this research was to study the role of trait rumination and a trigger on displaced
aggression after provocation. Paticipants were 120 undergraduate students who were classified
as having high or low trait rumination. Each paticipant was percieved provoke situation and
was randomly assigned to trigger or no trigger condition. Finally, paticipants were asked to
rate aggression evaluation form, trigger manipulation check and mood adjective check list.
Results show that participants who perceived trigger condition are higher displaced aggression than
participants who perceived no trigger condition (p < .001). Participants in high trait rumination
are higher displaced aggression than participants in low trait rumination (p < .001). Participants
in high trait rumination are higher displaced aggression than participants in low trait rumination
when perceived trigger condition (p < .001). But they do not differ on displaced aggression
when perceived no trigger condition (p < .001). Effects of a trigger do not differ on participants
in low trait rumination but differ on participants in high trait rumination (p < .001).
