Abstract
The application of cellulase for ethanol production from waste paper were investigated. Office’s waste
papers were crush into small pieces and characterized. Waste paper had ash and moisture content around 19.90
and 0.00072%, respectively. Holocellulose and lignin content in paper were 73.14 and 14.00%, respectively.
However treated paper which incubated with 3 M NaOH (24 h) at 70 °C (90 minutes) consisted 39.52 and 4.00%,
respectively. Pretreated papers were used as raw material for ethanol production by simultaneous saccharification
and fermentation (SSF) and saccharification and fermentation (SF) together with the available of cellulase and
yeast
Sacharomyces cerevisiae
. Then ethanol (1.10 g%) obtained from SSF process within 9 days of cultivation.
However, SF process gave only 0.91% within 11 days of cultivation.
