Abstract
This study aimed to assess the concentration of blood glucose, HbA1c and insulin in type 2
diabetic patients after consuming Sangyod Phattalong brown rice at least 2 meals/d (SYBR, n=39)
compared with control group consumed white rice as usual diet (WR, n=39) at wk0, 8, 16 and 24. Both
groups were advised to follow nutrition therapy guideline for diabetes. Results found that there were
no statistically significant changes of fasting plasma glucose in both groups during 24 weeks. SYBR
group had mean values of HbA1c gradually significantly decreased from wk0 while WR group had
HbA1c significantly decreased only at wk8 which after that no changed. SYBR group had mean serum
insulin significantly increased at wk8 compared to wk0 while no significant changes in WR group.
Results suggested that regular consumption of Sangyod Phattalong brown rice may have more benefits
to type 2 diabetes than follow nutritional guidelines but still eat white rice.
