Abstract
The aim of this research was to isolate lead toxicity resistant bacteria from soil and tannery
wastewater. Lead toxicity resistant bacteria were isolated on nutrient agar containing lead acetate,
incubated at 37 °C for 24 hours. Six bacterial strains were isolated from soil (PBS1-PBS6) and 10 isolates
obtained from tannery wastewater (PBW1-PBW10). Minimal Inhibitory Concentration MIC ǰat
concentration of lead as 500-1300 mg/L were studied by drop plate technique on nutrient agar,
incubated at 37 °C for 24 hours. PBS1 had MIC at 1250 mg/L and PBS2-PBS6 had MIC at 1300 mg/L.
Lead resistant bacteria from tannery wastewater as PBW4 had MIC at 500 mg/L, PBW2 had MIC at
1150 mg/L and MIC of PBW1, PBW3, PBW5-PBW10 had MIC at 1300 mg/L.
