บทคั ดย อ
งานวิ จัยนี้ มีวั ตถุประสงคเพื่ อวิเคราะหเปรี ยบเที ยบป จจั ยที่มีอิทธิ พลตอการลงทุ นโดยตรงจาก
ตางประเทศ (FDI) ในประเทศไทย โดยศึ กษาเฉพาะ FDI จากประเทศพัฒนาแล วได แก สหรั ฐอเมริกา
ญี่ ปุ น และสหภาพยุโรปเดิม โดยใชตั วแบบเศรษฐมิติและเครื่ องมือทางสถิ ติ ไดแก Unit Root Tests,
Co-integration Analysis และ Error Correction Model ผลการวิ จั ยพบวา ป จจั ยที่มีอิทธิ พลตอการไหลเขา
มาของ FDI จากประเทศพัฒนาแล วได แก ขนาดตลาด ต นทุ นการผลิ ตและอัตราแลกเปลี่ ยน โดยที่ FDI ที่ มี
แหล งกํ าเนิดตางกันจะตอบสนองต อป จจั ยที่กําหนดต างกัน

Abstract
This study examines the determinants of FDI, which originated from developed countries,
in Thailand. The empirical findings indicate that FDI from different sources responded differently to
the macro economic factors, i.e., market size, production costs and exchange rate, in Thailand.

INTRODUCTION
Similar to other developing countries, FDI has played a crucial role in the overall
development of the Thai economy over the past three decades. As Thailand has pursued an industrial
strategy characterized by promoting export-led-growth in the manufacturing industry, foreign
participation in her economy has dramatically increased . Thailand now regards FDI as one of the
most effective measures to achieve her development goals of industrialization and economic
modernization. For Thailand to succeed in attracting FDI, basically, the government needs to
comprehend what factors influence FDI inflows. This understanding would capacitate the
government to build up desirable investment climate and investment promotional policy.
The aim of this paper is to examine which economic factors affected FDI inflows for the
period 1970-1996. The investigation focuses on FDI from developed countries, including Japan, US
and EU, which are considered as continuous major sources of FDI to Thailand in the last three
decades.
The remainder of this paper is organized as follows. The following section gives a brief
overview of FDI theory and some previous empirical findings. The methodology, data and variable
specification are explained in section 3. Section 4 reports the estimated results. The final section
