Abstract
This study developed the instruments of scientific-mind assessment for students of the third stage
under Songkhla Educational Zones as well as constructed norms and manuals. The instruments consisted of a
situation-test form, observation forms for teachers and peers, and a self-assessment form. The sample, by means of
multi-stage random sampling, consisted of 826 third-stage students of secondary grade 3 under Songkhla
Educational Zones in the second term of the 2006 academic year. The findings of the study were as follows.
1. The content validity of the situation-test form showed correspondence-index values of .80-1.00. The
construct validity of the form by means of correlation coefficient values between item scores and total scores for
individual aspects on the one hand and total scores of individual aspects and total-form scores showed correlation
coefficient scores of .154-.648, of statistical significance at the .01 level. The item discriminative power by
means of t-test was statistically significant at the .01 level. The reliability by means of the alpha coefficient
formula was .844 in value. The norms showed normal T scores of T

- T

.
2. The content validity of the observation form showed correspondence index values of .80-1.00. The
construct validity by means of correlation coefficient values between item scores and total scores of individual
aspects on the one hand and total scores of individual aspects and total-form scores on the other showed
correlation coefficient values of .188-.875, of statistical significance at the .01 level. The item discriminative
power by means of the Point Bi serial Index was .34-.64 for the observation form for teachers and .28-.61 for
the observation form for peers. The reliability by means of the KR-20 formula was .920 in value. The normal T
scores for the norms were T

.
3. The content validity of the self-assessment form showed correspondence index values of .80-1.00.
The construct validity by means of correlation coefficient values between item scores and total scores of
individual aspects on the one hand and total scores of individual aspects and total-form scores on the other
showed correlation coefficient values of .341-.742, of statistical significance at the .01 level. The item
discriminative power by t-test was statistically significant at the .01 level. The reliability by means of the alpha
coefficient formula was .906 in value. The normal T scores of the norms were T
15
- T
75
.
