Abstract
This study developed aptitude tests for police study by determining the quality of the instruments, and
constructing norms and manuals. The instruments were: a test of reasoning mathematics, a test of ability in
vocabulary and application of language principles, a test of ability in decision-making based on comprehension, and
a test of ability in planning. The sample, by means of cluster random sampling, consisted of 443 non-
commissioned police cadets in the 2006 academic year. The findings of the study were as follows.
The content validity of the four tests as checked by experts showed correspondence-index values
from .60 to 1.00. The construct validity by means of correlation coefficients between item scores and total-test
scores showed the following values of statistical significance at the .01 level for all the tests. The reliability by
means of the Kuder-Richardson (KR 20) formula, the values were as follows: .66 for the reasoning-mathematics
test, .70 for the test of ability in vocabulary and application of language principles, .85 for the test of ability in
decision-making based on comprehension, and .89 for the test of planning ability. The norms showed the following
normal T values: T

for the reasoning-mathematics test, T

for the test of ability in vocabulary and
application of language principles, T
