Abstract
The objective of this thesis was to analyze the roles of transformation and disguise of the
characters of two play, by King and Inao, by King Rama 2. The finding of the study were presented by
means of descriptive analysis, as shown below.
It was found that, concerning the causes of transformation or disguise and the role as
expected, the characters who transformation wanted to mislead their opponents, to weaken them, to spy on
their opponents, who doings or to note their appearances for effective disguise, to help others. The
characters disguised wanted to fulfill their desires, to look for someone beloved, to follow leaders and to
mislead their opponents. The role expected by the characters was to bring an expectation to fruition
.
The forms after transformation or disguise were found to be of four types. The animal
characters were transformed into animals, demons, and others. The demon characters were transformed
into angels, humans, and animals. The angle characters were transformed into animals. Human
characters were disguised as other humans and angels.
The consequences of transformation or disguise were found to be of four types : beneficial
to the character, harmful to the characters, both beneficial and harmful to the characters, and no
consequence.
Comparatively with respect to expected role and actual role, the following points were
brought out. Transformation and disguise were effected 25 time. The correspondence between the role
expected by the characters and their actual role in stories occurred 23 time. Twice there was no
correspondence.
