carrying on an occupation, emancipation by refusing marriage, and emancipation by refusing to take a mother role.
Besides analyzing the two novels with the concept, they were then compared to each other. The results of this study
were presented using analytical description.
After comparing the two novels, it was found that the female protagonist in Waewwan expressed herself, based
on Simone de Beauvoir's concept, through all the four issues of emancipation: by education, by carrying on an
occupation, refusing marriage, and by refusing to take a mother role. Concerning the female protagonist in Tawan
Ching Plob, she emancipated herself through only of the two issues: by education and by carrying on an occupation.
For the rest two issues, they did not conform to Simone de Beauvoir's concept as the female protagonist in Tawan
Ching Plob tended to get married and have her children in the future. With regard to social responses in relation to
the four issues of the women's emancipations, it was revealed that Thai society seemed not to accept the women’s
emancipations of being married and being a mother. Nevertheless; as time has gone by, social criteria have been
reduced in their strictness. Thus, the women's self-emancipation issues of Simone de Beauvoir’s concept in
Waewwan were more obvious than those in Tawan Ching Plob.
